A letter from Tomohisa Yamashita to himself (Posted on 28 Jul 2012, Osaka day 1 concert)
Yamashita san wrote a sincere letter to himself during the MC segment during his first day "Ero P" concert in Osaka. According to reports from fans who have attended the concert, the letter was flashed on the screen and his voice was heard reading the letter. I got hold of the Japanese text of the letter shared by a fan and did my version of English translation to share with all of you here.
I guess it must have taken him a lot of courage and thought to write this letter. It saddens me to read some unkind comments from people who were not his fans, people who have not been following him. No matter what decision/s he had made, he took the blame upon himself which I feel that he shouldn't have to. Like him, I strongly believe that one only has one lifetime to live, if you don't make that step to do whatever you wish to do in this lifetime, when are you going to do that? Some may have viewed that reason as being selfish, but like what Johnny san himself has said before, no one owes you a living, you got to fight to achieve your own success. Wise man and his wise words. Some said he regretted leaving NEWS and that he lost his first oricon ranking, to me, the Yamapi I know never regrets what he has done. He may have felt sorry for causing pain to NEWS fans because of his departure but he never for once regrets leaving NEWS just because he lost his oricon ranking.
What is Oricon ranking? To me, it's not a 100% sure indication of how good an artiste is anymore. Various management companies come up with various tactics to promote their artistes in order to clinch that title. It's not a fair competition anymore, in my opinion. Therefore, dear Yamashita san, no matter whether you are number 1 or number 10, to your fans, as long as you have worked hard and you have improved with each single/album that you produced, you have been successful! With "Love Chase" and "Ero", I feel that you've managed to combine songs from different genre to present to your fans. We can see your effort, you've brought us surprises~cheers!!
There'll always be people who are unhappy with what he does, what he says, I seriously cannot understand the intention of these people. If you don't like him, stop reading stuff about him, maybe that will make you happier. Leave him alone, he did not harm you in anyway. He was only telling his fans his deepest thoughts. But one thing I'm glad about this is that Pi finally let go a little yesterday, hope that he feels better after reading that letter instead of keeping everything to himself all these years. I still believe that no quarrels led to his departure from NEWS. As fans, let's not create tension among ourselves cause I know of many who are still fans of P and fans of NEWS as well. Let's not force these people to take sides and I wish that both NEWS and Yamapi will achieve success in whatever they wish to persue in future.
